With a home office, you can easily work from the comforts of your own place.Whether you are a writer, artist, engineer, doctor or accountant, your home office should contain good furniture and accessories. They should make you feel focused but still very much at ease. Ergonomics is very important in reducing the risks for injuries, especially for repetitive movements such as typing.

The area must be spacious enough to contain a desk and the necessary equipment you need, but it does not have to be too grand. A table beside the window in a peaceful room inside the house can already act as a simple home office. Furniture with casters can allow you to move things around. A good layout will let you to move from the desk to another work area such as the computer table without difficulty.

Storage options such as drawers and shelves should be able to hold the office supplies, and be easily reachable. Labels can help in organizing the items. In small spaces, tall bookcases or shelves mounted on the walls can utilize the vertical space.  For those working with larger spaces, a lounge chair or even a couch can be included and used for short breaks.

To attain greater efficiency, proper lighting should be installed within the home office. Task lighting can facilitate reading, writing, drawing, printing and other actions necessary to complete the work. A desk lamp or lighting fixtures installed beneath the wall-mounted shelves can brightly illuminate the work area.

Aside from artificial lighting, natural lighting should also be considered. Daylight affects the mood and productivity of a person – plus, it can also help to reduce the strain caused by the light fixtures and computer screen on your eyes. If the office table is placed right by the window, blinds can be used in order to control the amount of sunlight coming in.

The color scheme of the area can also affect productivity. Uplifting colors such as yellow can boost energy, while pale colors such as green can calm your mind. For a personal touch, framed photographs and artwork can be hung from the walls.

Like any other spaces, a home office should be tailored to its user and the type and volume of work.Even in such a simple space, an industrious but enjoyable atmosphere can promote good work habits and help you expand your career.
