Accent walls are back and they are stronger than ever, when it comes to interior design. There are so many types of accent walls during the present day. It can be difficult deciding on what type of wall will work best for your style.
Rustic interiors will benefit from wood paneling. There are many different levels of wood paneling. For a rough look install a pallet or other rough sawn wood. For a more traditional/rustic style you can install pine or hickory panels on the wall. Choose a stain that will work best with your style. We prefer clear stain with either a high gloss or a matte finish. Letting the wood show it’s organic beauty, really makes an impression on a room.
For a traditional home, there is a wide array of traditionally styled wall papers. The associate that works in a wallpaper showroom can point you in the right direction; if you are able to tell them the style of your interior and furnishings. It is always helpful to bring in photos of the room in which you plan on installing the wallpaper. This way you do not need to shop based on your memory. The sales person will have a better idea of your needs, if they can see the space. For a French country look, consider a toile pattern in the color of your choice. There is a wallpaper for any traditional style, English, French, Greek, Early American etc. make sure you are aware of the color scheme in the room before looking at wall paper patterns.
For a modern or transitional look consider a metal leaf or a metal impression wall paper. Wallpaper that looks like antique gold leaf is really in right now. Some other styles are silver and copper. Installing actual metal on the wall, is showing up in high styled interiors. Metal on an accent wall is a very designer look. Because the metal has the shiny finish, it is important not to go overboard. Stick to one metal accent wall. More than one wall covered in metal, or metal like wall paper, can end up being too much within a space. This is only true if the entire wall is covered. You can certainly apply this look on all four walls when installing wainscoting.
If you are just unsure what style is right for you, start off by painting an accent wall. The color choice can be bold or light, depending on your preference. The best part about this method is that it can be easily painted over later on!
