- Piece of Furniture
- Painter’s Tape
- 220-Grit Sandpaper
- Paint Primer (Multipurpose)
- Oil-Based Paint in Preferred Color
Take your piece of furniture outdoors if the weather allows. This way you will not get paint on anything inside, and it will give you room to move.
If the furniture piece is a dresser, take out all of the cabinets. With painter’s tape, mark down which cabinet goes with which drawer to avoid confusion.
Begin lightly sanding the piece of furniture and drawers whether it is old or new.
Brush away any dust from the recent sanding then start priming the piece of furniture and drawers with your multipurpose primer. Let it sit until it is dry.
Grab your sander and begin sanding the furniture and drawers once again to take away remaining dust and raised wood fibers.
Paint your piece with oil-based paint starting from the top to the bottom.
Apply as many coats as necessary. The more you paint, the richer your color will turn out.
Let the piece dry completely before moving it back indoors and return all the drawers to their proper home.
Step Nine (Optional):
If you are painting an old dresser, try replacing the door handles with new ones to complete the dresser’s look.
