Written by creatingyourspace on . Posted in Christmas

Christmas time can come and go as a blur, if we don’t slow down to enjoy it with the people that matter most. It is so easy to make Christmas about your children, letting the holiday go by without making it special as a couple. Start traditions that are enjoyable and simple for you and your spouse to enjoy after the kids are asleep.

Watch your favorite Christmas movies together. One night watch your favorite and the next night watch his. This activity will get you in the mood for Christmas decorating. You two can snuggle on the sofa together and even plan a special holiday snack for the event.

Decorate the tree together! Let’s face it ladies, putting the tree up and stringing the lights is the hardest task. Get your spouse involved. He will feel like strong and masculine while he is helping. After the tree is up, have fun placing memorable ornaments on the tree. Talk about past Christmases and hopes for this year’s holiday!

Each year buy each other a special Christmas ornament that represents the receiver’s personality. Shopping for the perfect ornament is fun and builds a special memory you can share for years to come together.

Sip on a holiday cocktail with your honey. You can decide which drinks to try this year. If you like beer, there are plenty of seasonal holiday brews to try. There are an array of Christmas inspired cocktails that you can make at home. Search on line for mixes you can make with your favorite liquor or liqueur.

Do themed stockings each year. Decide with your spouse on the special theme each year. This is a fun way to shop for your significant other. It is also really exciting seeing what your partner selected for you!

Snuggle by a fire and sip hot cocoa after you have set the presents under the tree. If you don’t have a fireplace, you can still sip yummy cocoa. This is a great way to unwind with your partner. Maybe this is the intimate time to exchange gifts; while it is just the two of you.

You don’t have to go on vacation to have fun during the summer. There are plenty of daytime and nighttime activities you can do with your family to make the most of the season. Consider doing some things right in your own city!

Find a drive-in movie theater or outdoor movie and take the whole family. You can sit in the car, bring lawn chairs or use an outdoor blanket for a picnic feeling. Pack your own snacks and relax under the stars. Many cities show movies at local parks every weekend during the summer – browse the internet for outdoor movie experiences near you.

Book a boat tour! If you live near a body of water, chances are there are daily boat trips you can take. You could go sailing or try out a kayak. There are rental companies that rent kayaks and canoes daily.

Fly a kite. This is a great activity to do with children, or relax and fly solo. Kites are typically welcome at the beach or in a park. Just make sure there is wind and enjoy a relaxing afternoon. When not in use, try hanging the kite on the wall as a bonus decoration!

Camp out in your backyard under the stars. Make your own fire or use a fire pit if allowed or use a hibachi grill. Enjoy cooking hotdogs and s’mores over an open flame!

Rent a convertible for a day or two. There is no better way to enjoy a beautiful summer day than in a convertible. Set out to tour the city you live in or have fun driving to different locations. Take a local scenic route and drive at your leisure.

Pick berries and other produce at a local farm. This is a fun way to buy produce! It sure beats selecting fruit from the grocery store. If you have kids, take them and allow them to hunt for the best fruit. Many farms sell fresh homemade ice cream and other treats to eat after picking produce. Make it a fun summer outing.

Find out what your city has to offer and make the most of the summer season!

A Gentlemen’s Living Room Décor

Written by creatingyourspace on . Posted in Design and Decorating

Fun. Carefree. Cool. Classy.

These are just a handful of the adjectives that can describe the life of a bachelor. So no matter whether you are a bachelor decorating your own living room or decorating for the single gentleman in your life keep in mind those four words.

The living room of a bachelor pad is one of the most important rooms of the home as this is a place which gets a lot of use whether it be alone time or with a large group of buddies. Here are some decorating ideas to create the perfect gentlemen’s living room.

  • To create a relaxing and entertaining atmosphere, a high definition TV is a must. Imagine a big flat screen mounted on the wall where favourite shows and sports games can be watched from a super comfy chair or sofa. It will really make the living room the ultimate hang out place.
  • For furniture, darker and richer colors such as on a leather sofa can help create a classy and masculine look. This is true of any style decor from modern to traditional.
  • Since the living room will double as an entertainment room, a mini-bar stacked with all kinds of drinks from wine, to beer and soda will be a nice addition too.
  • As for the wall decors, anything masculine will be a perfect choice depending on taste and style it can be anything from framed sports posters to abstract prints.
  • A display cabinet or shelves can also be a nice living room décor to display trophies, sports memorabilia collection, liquor collection or to showcase the hobbies and interest of the bachelor living in the pad.

So who says single gentlemen can’t make a classy home? With the help of some of these tips, decorating an ultimate living room for a bachelor is fun and carefree.

Holiday Home Décor

The holiday season is filled with different activities that only come around once a year. Decorating for the holidays should be fun, not a chore. Keep the following tips in mind when decorating your home for the festive season!

1. Don’t procrastinate: The longer you wait to get your decorating complete, the less time you have to enjoy your hard work. Don’t spend more time planning and shopping than you actually do decorating. An abundance of planning and shopping makes you tired before the real work even starts. Don’t over think your decorating plan, this type of decorating is temporary. Make your life easy, don’t take it too seriously and have fun! Make putting up and taking down holiday decorations a family affair tradition. Things will get done faster. When families accomplish tasks as a team, it brings them closer.

2. Focus: When decorating, start with a focal point. Rooms naturally have an area that is seen first by viewers due to architectural details and their locations. Larger rooms can have more than one focal point. When you begin, start with decorating the room’s natural focal point (for example: the fire place, windows, and built in bookcases with decorative moldings). Keep in mind that the whole room does not need to be decorated. Focus on what people notice and spend your time on those areas. Don’t create too much work for yourself!

3. Get inspired: Holiday color schemes are not restricted to the typical red, white and green. Use creative color schemes using bright colors in combination with a metallic color such as silver and/or gold (for example: green, purple and silver). Fresh new looks are exciting and notice-worthy. Have some fun and take some risks!
