Party for the Fourth!

Written by creatingyourspace on . Posted in Holidays

Fourth of July is right around the corner and while the invitations may have already gone out for your Fourth of July party, now comes the planning. It may not be the most enjoyable part of throwing your party but if you plan ahead in a few strategic ways you will be able to remove most of the stress that comes with hosting a party.

The first thing to tackle is the food. Plan on providing a few of the main dishes, such as barbecue or hamburgers and hotdogs. Grab the meat and buns and condiments necessary for this and then let your guests know that it will be potluck style. Ask each guest to bring one thing, such as side salads, potato salad, deviled eggs, chips, baked beans, and the like. This will take a significant amount of preparation off of your table and allow you to devote your time to all other aspects of the party.

Next you will want to think about decor. There are great ideas to find online if you want to craft for your party but it never hurts either to raid the dollar store for some red, white, and blue napkins, plates and small decorations. Don’t go too overboard with it though, otherwise it can come across as a bit over the top. Keep it tasteful, and be sure to string up some lights if you haven’t already for ambient lighting.

Finally, prepare the entertainment for the night. Purchase a couple of rounds of sparklers for everyone to light up in celebration of the holiday. Create several playlists for your guests to enjoy in the background ahead of time so that when the day comes you aren’t having to scramble back to your phone whenever a song comes on that isn’t appropriate for the occasion. You can also grab a few lawn games for your guests to enjoy, such as bocce ball or corn hole. These games are a sure hit.

Now that you’re prepared for your Fourth of July party, let yourself enjoy it. The preparation you’ve done will allow you to sit back and relax with your guests as we celebrate the day of our country’s independence.

Tailgating Parties

12925225_SFootball season is here!!!!! What does that mean? Tailgating parties. If you are lucky enough to have tickets to a game, good for you, but just because you couldn’t get tickets to the game – or your team’s on the road doesn’t mean you can’t have a tailgate party at home. Park your truck in front of your house or in the driveway, and decorate every square inch of it. Drag your television (with a long extension cord) and chairs out onto the lawn. But either way, this is how to have a great tailgate party.

If you are going to the stadium be sure you know all the tailgating rules.

Check the weather forecast. Pack umbrellas if necessary.

Good tailgating menus include the traditional hamburgers and hotdogs, but you can also think outside the box and do ribs or kebabs just to mix things up.  Cupcakes, pies or cookies are good dessert options. Bring beers and soda or if you want to get really creative concoct a cocktail based on your favorite team.

Pack your BBQ grill, charcoal, lighter fluid, spatula and tongs. Also remember to bring paper plates, disposable silverware, napkins and cups for beer or soda. It’s also not a bad idea to bring wet wipes, trash bags, a bottle opener and a football or Frisbee to throw around. Decide whether you need a table or intend to use the back of your truck as an impromptu surface.

Prepack your ice chest and cooler as much as possible the night before to save time when you’re heading out for the game in the morning and to be sure that all your beverages are cold.

Bring folding chairs so everyone can enjoy the tailgate in comfort. Think about how to broadcast the pre-game show and keep track of other games that are in progress. After all many of your guests are probably in a fantasy football league and they want to keep track of their teams stats.

Drink responsibly, please designate a sober driver. And most of all enjoy yourselves!
