Glass in the Kitchen

1692658_SUsing glass or Plexiglas in the kitchen can open up the space.  Clear materials are nice to mix in with solid surfaces like wood and stone. Both glass and Plexiglas can be found in clear, frosted, ribbed and textured forms—each with its own unique feeling. Glass fronted cabinets are great for displaying the pretty things in your kitchen like wedding china and glassware. Frosted Plexiglas or glass doors can lighten your cabinet fronts and still disguise the pantry goods and clutter.

This contemporary kitchen uses frosted glass on the cabinets and traditional stools.  These materials work well with the dark cabinets and neutral flooring.  The glass and dark cabinets contrast so you can really appreciate the glass detail.  However, the light walls and counter top keep the glass from looking too contrasting and out of place in the kitchen. Light colored counter tops continue the look of the room.

In a more traditional kitchen, glass front cabinets can make built-in cabinets feel more like traditional furniture such as china cabinets and hutches.  Single paneled glass front doors feel more modern than glass cabinet doors that have mullions or dividers.

There are also glass fronted refrigerators and wine fridges that can be used in the kitchen.  A fridge with a glass door requires a high level of organization to avoid adding visual clutter to a room. This is why wine fridges with glass doors are a better idea for most of us.
